Speaker Biograghy: Wayne has been Head of Information Services at Birmingham Airport since 2009, following his preceding 21 years working in the airport industry. He has gained a reputation for his willingness to adopt a professional and innovative approach. He has rebranded the internal IS department at Birmingham Airport and launched a new service-based offering with a focus on customer service. Wayne has recently overseen a complete refresh of the operational systems at Birmingham Airport, which has transformed the business by allowing it to gain from the efficiencies that technology offers. He has a Master’s degree in Airport Management and is a Chartered IT Professional of the British Computer Society. He sees technology as the major factor in influencing operational efficiencies in airports and civil aviation.

Synopsis: At PTE 2013, Wayne Smith, Head of IS at Birmingham Airport, presented on the technology that underpinned the combined Airport Control Centre at Birmingham Airport. Since that time, Birmingham Airport has undergone a complete operational system refresh, which is key to the company's strategy of growth over the coming years. At PTE 2014 Wayne will demonstrate how these systems have enabled Birmingham Airport to re-engineer some of its key business processes to alleviate a number of traditional bottlenecks in airport processing, and will show how Birmingham Airport has benefitted from the unprecedented levels of information which it now processes.
