Emanuel Fleuti, Head of Environment, Flughafen Zürich AG, Switzerland

Speaker Biograghy: Emanuel Fleuti has been working with Zurich Airport since 1990, heading the Environmental Department. He is responsible for all environmental topics excluding aircraft noise, but is specialised particularly in environmental management and airport air quality. Zurich Airport has held an ISO 14401 certificate for its Environmental Management System since 2001; the Environmental Department also has an ISO 9001 certificate for Quality Management. Emanuel has participated in a number of different international programmes such as the IPCC Special Report on Aviation and Global Atmosphere (1999) and ICAO's CAEP process. He also represents the airport in the ADV (German Airports Association), and has chaired the environmental committees of ACI Europe and ACI World. He is also involved as a consultant in environmental management and the air quality initiatives of international airports and organisations. Emanuel holds a degree from the University of Berne in Physical Geography and Computer Science.

Day 2 - 26 March
Session:
Energy, Environmental Issues & Sustainability

12:00 - 12:30 - Long-term airport energy strategy planning
Synopsis: Airports are large energy consumers. At the same time the energy has to be provided reliably, economically and in an environmentally friendly way (carbon emissions). As most airports plan the development and/or renovation of their infrastructure, the provision of energy becomes more and more important. The presentation provides an insight into the complex matter of airport energy strategy planning, including national regulations, energy market liberalisation, climate change and airport development.

Session:
Energy, Environmental Issues & Sustainability

16:15 - 17:15 - Panel Discussion: How are energy issues influencing airports' long-term development strategies?
Synopsis: Airports are energy intensive infrastructures that are operated 7 days a week and under a high demand of reliability for energy supply. Questions of energy supply, costs, grid reliability and environmental impacts are important for airports that need to develop their infrastructure that will be in operation for decades. As such, airports need to consider energy aspects when developing their airport. This is best done by developing and implementing a long-term energy strategy. The panelists from different world regions and airports will discuss the various aspects.
