Lawrence Studdiford, National Aviation Systems Practice Leader, URS Corporation, USA

Speaker Biograghy: Larry is the National Aviation Systems Practice Leader for URS Corporation. He has nearly 20 years of experience in the aviation industry, mostly in the planning, design, commissioning, integration and programme management of complex baggage handling and security screening systems at airports worldwide. He has worked continuously with the Transportation Security Administration since its inception, helping to secure the USA’s airports, including authorship of various sections of federal guidelines and standards. In addition to his aviation endeavours, Larry is responsible for programme management and development for various federal programmes for URS. Larry is a member of numerous industry associations, including ACC, ACI, AAAE and NDIA. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and is nearing completion of his Engineering Management Master of Science degree programme.

Synopsis: As the United States’ Transportation Security Administration (TSA) continues to evolve its standardisation of screening passengers and checked baggage, coupled with the progression of risk-based security, the need for harmonisation with the international aviation community is ever-present. This session will focus on the mission of the TSA with respect to passenger and checked baggage security, and provide a synopsis of its Planning Guidelines and Design Standards for Checked Baggage Inspection Systems (PGDS) and Checkpoint Design Guide (CDG).
