Katsuhiro Yamaguchi, Executive Officer, New Kansai International Airport Company Ltd, Japan

Speaker Biograghy: Katsuhiro Yamaguchi is in charge of corporate strategy, international relations and business development at New Kansai International Airport Company Ltd. He is also serving as a Visiting Researcher at the Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP), University of Tokyo. Before coming to NKIAC, Katsuhiro was Director of General Affairs, Railway Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), Government of Japan. He joined the Ministry of Transport (reorganised as MLIT in 2001) in 1983 and has had broad and extensive experience in policy areas in air transport, land transport, etc. He also served as Professor at GraSPP, University of Tokyo between 2005 and 2008. His educational background includes Faculty of Law, University of Tokyo and Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Michigan.

09:05 - 09:30 - Strategic airport/airline collaboration of LCC start-up in Japan
Synopsis: New Kansai International Airport Company Ltd (NKIAC) has taken strategic steps to take advantage of the fully fledged 24-hour operational capability of Kansai International Airport (KIX) and facilitate start-up of Japan’s first LCC, by building an LCC-dedicated terminal. Terminal 2 (T2) opened in 2012, and is the hallmark of airport-airline collaboration for the first Japan-based LCC, Peach Aviation, to launch its service in 2012. KIX has served as a facilitator for LCC to take off in Japan, and a popular annual Best Vogue Word of the Year award in Japan chose LCC as one of the top-10 buzzwords for 2012.
