Day 2 - 26 March
Session:
Airport Cities and Transport Connections

11:05 - 11:35 - Schiphol Real Estate – creating preferred locations: from hardware to software
Synopsis: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has always been considered one of the leading airport city developers in the world. This presentation will focus on the role of the customer in the airport city. During a long-lasting real-estate recession, further development of offices, warehouses and hotels around Schiphol Amsterdam has been a difficult task. With a strong customer-centric approach, Schiphol Real Estate managed to invent new ways to attract customers and further develop the already strong airport city of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. There has been a shift from 'hardware' to 'software'. The airport city is not only made of bricks, concrete and steel; it is the people that make use of the area. Therefore a strong focus on workers' demands forced Schiphol Real Estate to implement other elements into the airport city. The area became more attractive and new tenants arrived. Schiphol Real Estate managed to give new impulses to the area and the area became more interesting.
