To map out the development needs that help HKIA achieve sustainable growth while retaining its long-term competitiveness and position as an international aviation hub, the Airport Authority is planning to expand HKIA into a three-runway system to allow the airport to handle future traffic demand as estimated by IATA Consulting, with 607,000 aircraft movements per year by 2030.
