Emanuel Fleuti, Head of Environment, Flughafen Zürich AG, Switzerland

Speaker Biograghy: Emanuel has been working with Zurich Airport since 1990, heading the Environmental Department. He is responsible for all environmental topics excluding aircraft noise, but is specialised particularly in environmental management and airport air quality. Zurich Airport has held an ISO 14401 certificate for its Environmental Management System since 2001; the Environmental Department also holds an ISO 9001 certificate for Quality Management. Emanuel has participated in a number of different international programmes, including the IPCC Special Report on Aviation and Global Atmosphere (1999) and ICAO's CAEP process. He also represents the airport in the ADV (German Airports Association), and has chaired the environmental committees of ACI Europe and ACI World. He is also involved as a consultant in environmental management and air quality initiatives of international airports and organisations. Emanuel holds a degree in Physical Geography and Computer Science from the University of Berne.

Synopsis: Airports are entities with many different types of infrastructure: buildings, hangars, runways, apron, access roads, etc. In order to operate the airport system, energy is required. The presentation explores the way the energy demand of an airport is monitored, aggregated and presented for informed decision making by the management on energy savings and efficiency measures. It highlights chances, risks and opportunities, and the overall benefits the lead to improvements in an airport's energy footprint.
