David G Holm, Architect Director, Cox Architecture, Australia

Speaker Biograghy: David is an Australian architect with Cox Architecture, designing transport and infrastructure projects throughout Australia and Asia. David's design focus is on the provision of memorable and successful public built form focussed around transport nodes acting as urban growth catalysts. Key projects include Singapore’s Changi Terminal 3; Chek Lap Kok International Airport, Hong Kong; New Delhi International Airport, India; Sydney Airport International 'Forum' development and current expansions; the Hyderabad Aerotropolis in India. David works with education institutions tutoring, mentoring and in masterclass workshops. He is a New South Wales Board of Architects Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship recipient and a Churchill Fellow. He is passionate about drawing and has published two books; ‘Drawing Italy’ and ‘Drawing Paris’. He is a Chapter Councillor on the NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects and is a New South Wales Board of Architects Registration Examiner.

10:10 - 10:40 - The second Sydney airport – what are the issues?
Synopsis: In 2014 the Federal Government of Australia committed to developing a new major second airport within the existing city of Sydney. This iconic city with a population of four million is forecast to grow to seven million by 2050. This paper will analyse the impacts of a second major airport on an existing city in terms of urban growth, catalytic effects, provision of infrastructure, impacts on existing transport nodes and, importantly, passenger and social considerations. International benchmarks will be tabled as touchstones for future development to understand the impacts of a second major airport on an existing city.
