Noam Maitless, Associate Vice President, RTKL Associates Inc, USA

Speaker Biograghy: Noam brings over 20 years' of experience in design and planning to complex architectural and urban design projects, TOD, and mixed-use development, domestically and internationally. He is an award-winning architect whose work crosses the boundaries between architecture and urbanism, and pushes the limits of technology to create sustainable and memorable places in cities throughout the world. He has a background in civic and transit-related design, recent projects include a new master plan for downtown Las Vegas, as well as pioneering work in aerotropolis masterplanning, in Memphis, Tennessee, and Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, South Africa. Noam holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Humanities from Stanford University. He has taught architecture in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and has written extensively about architecture and design for Esquire.

12:30 - 13:00 - Aerotropolis Rex – innovative strategies for resilient airport cities
Synopsis: The purpose of this paper is to present RTKL’s recent experience in the planning, design and development of aerotropoli. Discussion will follow our approach and execution of aerotropolis master plans, strategies to integrate the economic, urban, and social aspects of these large planning projects, and the methodology we use to unleash their social and economic potential. Our experience has led to solutions both traditional and radical. Our work in southern California, Memphis, Tennessee and South Africa will demonstrate the commonalities and contradictions in this relatively new and important urban form.
