Michael Healy, Vice President, Infrastructure & Commercial Development, Halifax International Airport Authority, Canada

Speaker Biograghy: Michael is responsible for land use planning, infrastructure planning, engineering, construction management, lease administration and commercial development at the airport. Also, for a time, he led the redevelopment of the technology infrastructure and growth of the Information Technology group. The major focuses of Michael’s role at the Halifax International Airport Authority are to oversee the Airport Improvement Programme, and to create an airport city, through commercial development. Michael has over 30 years' experience in project construction and operations management. He has worked in engineering, construction, business development and design/build operations for various construction companies. Michael holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.

Passenger Processing: Bag Drop, Check-in & Self-Service


12:00 - 12:25 - Implementation of a new self-service bag-drop check-in hall
Synopsis: In collaboration with airline partners, Halifax Stanfield International Airport has implemented a new passenger processing model utilising self-service bag drops. The project delivered new high-speed screening equipment, and a high-efficiency tilt-tray baggage system integrated with self-service bag drops in a renovated and expanded check-in hall. This state-of-the-art infrastructure has resulted in greatly improved passenger processing times and the elimination of queues. The presentation will focus on design considerations, equipment selection, technology integration and project planning to deliver this ambitious project in an operating airport, minimising disruption to passengers and staff, on time and under budget.
