Fraport AG

Speaker Biograghy: Klaus has spent more than 28 years in the airport business. He started his career in the Corporation Controlling Department of Fraport, engaged in long-term planning, especially of the cargo business unit. Later he moved to the Cargo Business Unit and set up an in-house cargo management system. After nine years in charge, he moved to the Central Strategic Development Department. With a team of several colleagues he developed the new Fraport strategy in 1998, which put a clear fundamental focus on the external expansion of the airport business. Then he set up a Fraport ground handling joint venture abroad (Portugal) from scratch, taking over responsibility as a member of the Executive Board. After nearly two years he went back to Germany, bringing in his experience into the Fraport Mergers & Acquisitions and Consulting team. His focus is masterplanning and airport developments.

Synopsis: Two subjects have kept the airport community busy for years: the development of airports into hubs, and the development of airport cities. Fraport developed an airport city concept years ago. We will evaluate the airport city concepts from different points of view: the perspective of the airport operator/manager, regional aspects and the macroeconomic perspective. Different parties involved in airport city development pursue different targets. The Fraport experience in developing a cargo city and an entire airport city will give an overview of critical issues.
