Karen Kavanagh, VP - Planning Department, DFW International Airport, USA

Speaker Biograghy: Karen is the Vice President of Planning at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, providing key leadership support and guidance to the overall facility and capital planning process of the airport. She works with airport stakeholders to develop and maintain the long-term airport masterplan, as well as creating near-term strategies to support DFW department needs, including capacity studies, wayfinding, signage, passenger flow studies and land use planning. She also serves as a liaison to public and private entities to advocate for airport development, including road and rail access improvement, and ensures overall airport development complies with governmental regulations and the public interest. Karen has extensive planning experience in aviation-related professional consulting and public agency positions, including 25 years exclusively in aviation. She was President of KavPlan LLC, a certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) specialising in strategic aviation planning and programming, and has served as a strategic advisor to airport and airline executives. Throughout her career, Karen has led aviation project teams focused on airport masterplanning, environmental/noise studies and land use development for multiple airports. Karen holds an MBA from the University of Dallas and a BSc in Industrial Management from Purdue University. She also brings insights into the municipal planning process gained from her 16 years of service on the City of Bedford, Texas Planning and Zoning Commission. She earned her Commercial Pilot with Instrument Rating licence in 1982.

10:50 - 11:15 - TRIP update
Synopsis: DFW is in the middle of a multi-year, multi-phase renewal of the original four terminals. This US$2.9bn programme is called the Terminal Renewal and Improvement Programme, or TRIP. TRIP addresses the 4+ million square feet of passenger terminal facilities by replacing and upgrading infrastructure that is at the end of its useful life. This includes all systems, improving passenger processing and movement throughout the facilities, while improving operations and customer service. TRIP also provides over 180 new concession locations, ticketing halls, expanded security checkpoints and added passenger amenities. TRIP is scheduled to complete in 2021.
