Max Connop, Global Board Director, Aedas, Hong Kong

Speaker Biograghy: Max is a UK-registered architect with over 22 years' experience in architecture. He is a Global Board Member and Transport Sector Leader at Aedas, where he leads the company's major aviation projects around the world. He is currently Design Director for the concept and detailed design of the Terminal 2 expansion, and the design and construction of the Midfield Concourse project at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). He was also the architectural design team leader for the North Satellite Concourse at HKIA, the engineering feasibility study and environmental assessment study for the airport masterplan 2030 for HKIA, and for RFP entries in the Middle East, Thailand and China. Max’s works are characterised by a strong emphasis on performance and sustainability. He embeds a ‘green DNA’ into every design to ensure a world-class, sustainable solution. As a progressive green building/sustainability advisor, he has significantly influenced Aedas’s industry-leading sustainable initiatives.

Synopsis: China’s mandate to rapidly expand its aviation sector creates extensive opportunities for consultants and suppliers. Focusing on the initial stages of competitions for new terminals and concourses, Max will analyse recent and past successful airport submissions, looking for commonality and themes to create winning strategies. What does Chinese aviation want, and what does Chinese aviation need? How do the prevalent new emergent design trends in global aviation translate to the Chinese aviation market?
