Speaker Biograghy: Claudio has been Head of the Air Border Sector in the Operations Division of Frontex, the European border and coast guard agency, since 2007. The Air Borders Sector leads operational activities between border guards for enhancing the security of the EU external borders. About 130 airports are involved in Frontex Air Border activities. Claudio joined the Italian Polizia di Stato in 1989. He is a Lieutenant Colonel who, prior to joining Frontex, was Chief of Operations at Venice Border Police. A former handball player, he has a background in police and frontier control, incorporating integrated border management, transnational criminal investigations, counter terrorism, asylum/refugee management and international cooperation. He holds a Master's degree in Political Science/Public Administration from the Italian University of Trieste, has undertaken post-graduate training at the Superior Police Academy in Rome, and has an Executive MBA from the University of Quebec (UQAM) and the Polish Warsaw School of Economics (SGH).

12:20 - 12:55 - The border control funnel: business needs and opportunities
Synopsis: Border control has always been one of the most important funnels in processing passengers at airports. Ten years since its inception, Frontex is available to explore opportunities for collaboration with EU airports and air carriers with a mutually beneficial approach. Frontex would like to carry out an operational analysis of problems/opportunities to identify common objectives and synergies to solve daily challenges faced by field managers operating at airports in quality of border guards and transport industry representatives.
