Emanuel Fleuti, Head of Environment, Flughafen Zürich AG, Switzerland

Speaker Biograghy: Emanuel has been working with Zurich Airport as Head of Environmental Services since 1990. He has an MSc in Geography, and is responsible for all environmental aspects excluding aircraft noise, with particular expertise in environmental management, air quality and climate change. Emanuel is participating in several international programmes, e.g. ICAO's Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) and the European Forum-AE. He represents the airport in the ADV (German Airports Association), has chaired the environmental committees of ACI Europe and ACI World, and supports other airports and aviation organisations through consulting.

A proven approach is certification with a Green Building label. Zurich Airport's 'The Circle' is aiming for a LEED Platinum label. Synopsis: Airport aprons are still areas of elevated air pollution, and efforts are being made to reduce emissions. One main source of pollution is the aircraft APU, which can be replaced by stationary ground energy systems. The presentation will discuss the aircraft ground energy systems at Zurich Airport, highlighting the technical aspects as well as the economic benefits for airlines and the airport, in addition to the environmental benefits.
