Ferenc Kis, Head of Environmental Protection, Budapest Airport, Hungary

Speaker Biograghy: Ferenc has been Head of Environmental Protection at Budapest Airport for six years, and Energy and Carbon Manager since 2014. He is responsible for the complex environmental tasks at the airport, initiating various energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, and coordinating the Green Airport Programme for reducing the environmental impact of the entire airport community. The noise, air and water quality monitoring systems are under his supervision, as well as the airport carbon accreditation at optimisation level 3. His current aim is to transform BUD as a flagship location of Hungarian electric mobility developments. He holds MSc degrees in Environmental Management and Renewable Energy. Previously he worked on conservation-orientated business development for seven years with international non-governmental organisations such as WWF and VSO, and spent over three years as Wetland Management Advisor in Mongolia and the Philippines.

Synopsis: Budapest Airport tries its best to responsibly tackle climate change challenges and develop sustainable and green solutions. Besides its carbon management policy aiming to reach carbon neutrality in the near future in the Airports Carbon Accreditation programme, several sustainable solutions are implemented in the following areas: water and wastewater management, smart new buildings and renovations resulting energy consumption reductions, air pollution monitoring system, modern recycling and waste collection system, e-car fleet, development of 5G and smart road access to get to the airport, and stakeholder engagement due to its partnership programme.
