Speaker Biograghy: David has had almost 40 years' experience within law enforcement, the last 12 of which have related specifically to developing holistic approaches to security. He has spoken internationally on the subject of insider threat mitigation, and has undertaken research into a number of areas including: the use of exercising to combat insider threat, the creation of insider threat risk assessments, and developing insider threat mitigation strategies. He was appointed an Honorary Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University at the start of 2017 in recognition of his work, and has co-produced an academic CPD programme aimed at upskilling organisational management regarding the dangers of insider threat and how to counter this threat. David holds a PhD in Critical Infrastructure Protection, and a Master's degree in HRM, focusing on insider threat mitigation. Personal fact: He had originally planned to study Pharmacy at university, but decided to take the 'easier' option of law enforcement instead.

15:00 - 15:30 - Understanding the threat from insider activity in the aviation sector
Synopsis: The aviation sector is a prime target for not only terrorist groups but also organised crime groups, low-level criminals and even disgruntled employees. Airports are complex environments that present many opportunities for insider threat activity. The presentation will explain what constitutes the 'insider threat', how this impacts the aviation sector and airports, how an insider threat risk assessment process can be developed, and how this threat can be managed and mitigated through proactive personnel security measures, insider threat exercising and holistic integrated security management.
